Any luck routing dome light wire?

The original wire was on the truck but brittle and naturally broke when I tried to gently pull on it. Any ideas on how to route a new set of wires up there?!

Jeff

Re: Any luck routing dome light wire?

You might try using a piece of stiff single strand copper wire to shove though in one direction or the other and use it to pull the wire (s) for the light through. Pretty much as an electrician would use a fish tape to pull wires through conduit. Maybe even a piece of welding rod or a wire coat hanger straightened out.

Here is what I use............. a old broken inner speedometer cable, start at the top of the A piller and just let it slide down the inside of the post and pick it up just under the bottom corner of the dash

Re: Any luck routing dome light wire?

I couldn't get a new wire in so I ran it out through the firewall and down the firewall with the rest of the tailight and gas guage wires. Then I ran it with the gas guage wire up through the rubber grommet and then fished it up to the light.

Re: Any luck routing dome light wire?

I used a piece of utility wire from the top down thru the front pillar to pull the wire up.

Re: Any luck routing dome light wire?

i tried a piece of wire from the top and from the bottom for an hour with no luck.
i found some plastic banding (for strapping boxes together) and fished it from the top in 3 seconds.

Re: Any luck routing dome light wire?

on my 57 I used heavy string and put a small fishing weight on end to drop from hole where visor mounts.then a length of mechanics tie wire to fish it up to headliner opening.did this on pass side for power antenna wires to behind pass door.
