Re: 1971 Cheyenne C10 SWB Factory BBC

Just curious how does it do on mpg with the th400 and the 3.08 gears. I'm wondering how it compares to a 700r4 setup or 4l80e with 3.73 gears behind a big block. BTW that color scheme has always been my favorite that's a beautiful truck....

I have to be honest I don't drive the truck alot and when I do it is fairly hard. I would say it got about 10 or 12 mpg with a 454 / turbo 400 / 3:08 gears. The motor is not that wild it is about 200 to 250 hp (1977 454 w/RV cam for 87 octane).

Perfect.... sounds like with that mileage you'll make the trip to the lake just fine.

Just drove my '69 this past Saturday before the weather changed and I got... (gulp)... 4-5 MPG.

Yea right now with the 502 and 700r4 with 3.73's I'm getting about 14-15 mostly highway with my tall tires. I'm about to yank the 700r4 and install a 4l80e the 700r4 sucks imop...
