Question about 1972 Cheyenne Super

Anybody know how many 1972 Chevy Cheyenne "Super" SWB were built. I'm wanting to add info for car show purposes. Searched internet until fingers were bleeding.

Re: Question about 1972 Cheyenne Super

There are #'s on how many SWB's were made in 1972, but to find out how many were Cheyenne supers would be a guesstament at best.

Where do I find those numbers. I read an article from classictrucks.com that 10% of chevrolet trucks were cheyenne supers. Thanks for the reply.

Re: Question about 1972 Cheyenne Super

No records to prove or disprove that. Gm records were lost in a fire for US, think info for Canada is available. All you will see are general production numbers-example- xxx # of short v8 fleets, xxx # of short v8 steps, xxx # of long fleet etc. No specific # for option packages sold. Just rember you are dealing with several hundred thousand units produced in the short run of these trucks so lots are out there, however most are long trucks, not short it seems. Another example, in 72 only around 6900 short fleet v8 4x4 were produced, so figure that only a few were cheyenne or super option trucks. Other years of short fleet 4x4s were even lower in numbers produced.

Re: Question about 1972 Cheyenne Super

The Red book will give you a % of trucks sold that year had "Super" trim. I can try to find that tonight and will update.

I'll bet there's more now than in 1972.

I'd like to know what Chipflyers most popular request might be...

Re: Question about 1972 Cheyenne Super

The "standard catalog of Americaton light duty trucks" footnotes indicate that 7% of all of the 72 chevy trucks (1/2 ton to 1 ton) were produced from factory with Cheyenne Super package. As for how many trucks produced that year, somewhere around 603347 (1/2 to 1 ton, 2 wheel and 4x4, trucks, blazers, suburbans)., That means roughly around 42200 trucks that year have this package. No info on break down between short, long, fleet, step, 2wd, 4x4 etc..). The book editor is Lenzke, publisher is Krause.

Re: Question about 1972 Cheyenne Super

I've been wondering about these numbers as well, and until now hadn't come across even an educated guess as to the production numbers on my truck...

So is there any indication that it was in the ballpark of 7% of each combo, or just 7% overall? For example, it was stated above that there were only around 6900 short fleet v8 4x4 trucks produced. Would it be reasonable to extrapolate that there would have been less than 500 (approx 7%) of the Cheyenne Supers in that combo?
