Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion

Got the first half of the driveshaft on today, now I have my measurements and hopefully can get my rear shaft done pretty quick.

Got 1 rear wheel cleaned up and ready for paint.

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion

Well an early start to the day and a late finish at that.

I was up early and got my driveshaft into Lindsay Driveline and got it shortend to the right length. They balanced both shafts together. Mint.

Ordered some c channel for tomorrow for the box.

Bought a new 1/2 inch drill and a real bit for finishing off all the shackle holes and bolts.

Have a few adjustments to make to the pinion angle and I will be moving this truck under its own power....

OOF, I don't envy you drilling holes in those frame rails, one of my least favorite jobs for sure.

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion

Started the box sub frame tonight. Went well, need to do some finishing touches.

I am looking forward to cutting the excess off the frame.

Next on list, relocate some brake lines, install drive shafts and alter the hanger bearing location, then with any luck back it out of my shop and wash the floor again... ha.

Then I can get the back half of the frame in high gloss black.

Its getting there....

How high do you have to lift the bed in order to match the lines on the cab?

It is roughly 6.5 inches. I am not finished yet, I need to use some 1/2 inch flat bar to bring in all the way up...

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion

Another productive night. I am getting closer to seeing the wheels turn under its own power...

Did some more work on the sub-frame, I added a 1/2 x 4 x 8 piece of flat bar steel to my c channel. If all works out my body line should line up... Hopefully, that was too much drilling.

It should give the box a nice surface to sit on, and it will allow me some more bite when bolting the box down. I plan on adding some a couple crossers and I will have my cousin stitch some welds in it to the frame.

Because I moved my axle ahead, I had to relocate my flex lines. I got that accomplished and replaced some punky looking brake lines. I still need to fasten them to the frame. Should be all good.

Anyone ever bled a truck with two wheel cylinders per side? I need to research, but I am thinking passenger side low, passenger side high, driver side low, driver side high? Any thoughts?

I am hoping to get my drive shafts on tomorrow night... Hopefully as I will be away all weekend...

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion

Had visions of what a driveshaft would look like on the truck... So got up early this morning and got it in place.

As per the photos, I need to bring down the hanger bearing.

Getting closer to having the wheels a spinnin...

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion

Tremclad is my paint of choice, as JRANGER pointed out, I sprayed all the yellow via rattle can. I will be rolling the outside.

All accessories have been sprayed with Tremclad, with exception of the engine and anything with heat.
