Re: pros and cons 5 lug and 6
The only thing I have noticed is that the 5-lug Ralley wheels tuck in a little more than the 6-luggers on my other truck. I dont know if the spacing is a little different or if it's the suspensions on the trucks, which are different. The 5-lug is a 73+ setup and the 6-lug is a conversion spindle using all stock B/J's and tie rods. Both are dropped spindles with stock components otherwise.
I love those slotted wheels but have never seen any with any backspacing deeper than about 3.75''. Need another .5'' IMO.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...c+brake+wheels If the back of your wheel has the conical or tapered shape shown on the Rader mag in post 4 of this thread, it probably won’t clear the caliper: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...c+brake+wheels The truth is the only way to know for sure is to try mounting the wheel on an assembled disc brake & caliper. Some drum brake wheels fit while others do not. I’ve mounted both early 1960’s Dragmaster mags and factory Buick wheels designed for drum brakes on my front disc brakes. Both fit fine, although the mags needed a very tiny amount of clearance grinding on the calipers. Whether any particular wheel will clear the caliper depends on the shape of the wheel center, offset, and shape of the wheel rim on the back side. |

Re: pros and cons 5 lug and 6
I went 4 wheel disc 6 lugs and new axles. I wish I had gone 5 lug. My reasoning at the time was that I had already bought new 6 lugs wheels before my plans changed and I decided to drop it and narrow the rear end. I didn't want to buy wheels again. But now I have two trucks, have moved the "new" wheels to the other truck and looking for wheels again and wish I had the selections available for 5 lug.

Heres the 1974 blazer 4x4 rims w/1961-63 chevy hubcap. Shown w/hubcap, front and back. Notice the 4 bumps in the center pic & the 4 holes are slightly different then the 3 bump wheels.

Re: pros and cons 5 lug and 6
If you go forward with the conversion, please let us know if these fit the 6 lug disc brakes. Then we'll finally have confirmation one way or the other. Thanks for posting the photo.

Re: pros and cons 5 lug and 6
I found an 88 c1500 hd 2x4 with 6 lug disks. I wonder if they would have the same spindle diameter as my 60 drop spindles?

Re: pros and cons 5 lug and 6
Nope, not gonna work. Those don't work correctly on the '73-'87 spindles either. You have to use the '88-'98 spindles with those rotors.

Re: pros and cons 5 lug and 6
So about the rims...i swapped 72 disc front and the rear axle from same truck into my 62. Did GM make 16 inch rims for the 5 lug?? I like stock rims if i can help it,just like the taller wheels.
