1960 grill on 63-66
Ive been thinking about putting a 60 grill on my 63 because I like the dual headlights and want to put yellow lights in the high beams. Has anyone done this? Im just wondering if by chance the mounting holes would line up.

Re: 1960 grill on 63-66
Mounting holes on a 63 grill support are different, but the holes could be drilled to except the 60 grill. The 63 grill had 4 mounting locations per side. The 60-61 shared the same grill support, 62 had its own, 63 had its own and 64-66 was the same. The grill supports all look the same and will interchange, but have different mounting locations. GMC ran a dual headlight grill I believe through 66. Although the 60-61 grills differ from the GMC grill, this will get you close to what your looking for. And of course you'll have to do some wiring.

Re: 1960 grill on 63-66
I had a 61 grill in my 65. I would think it would just bolt up. You could Tee off the high beam side of the main headlights for the brights.

Re: 1960 grill on 63-66
I put a 1960 Grill in my 62 pickup . Had it sand blasted and powdercoated , bought the new headlamp wire harness , halogen lamps , plugged it in and looks and works Great !!! I didn't need to drill any holes in mine that I remember .. Just finished doing the Grill letters , 1st picture shows the lettering after I finished ...

63 C10 has it right - you need to drill extra holes to mount but its cake
Im a def fan of the earlier dual light grille! |

Re: 1960 grill on 63-66
"glendale" a member here was going to do the same thing with the yellow/amber fog lights on the center lights but ended up selling his truck and the extra dual headlight grill before we had the chance to do it....i thought it was a cool idea but never got to see it completed....if you do it i would be interested in seeing a picture of how it comes out.

Re: 1960 grill on 63-66
no to hijack (the amber light idea sounds cool btw) but does anybopdy know if the dual headlights take more juice to luminate?
I mighta just wired wrong but I wanted all lights on all the time so I just piggybacked the low and high beam wiring to all 4 lights - but now my low beams (all 4 lit up) are like a soft white light buld - kinda yellowish and dont put out any amount of light to see at night with - although my high beams are bright as heck........ |

Re: 1960 grill on 63-66
blackmopar- Check the grounds on your low beams. Also, you might think about doing a relay setup for those lights. You're running all that amperage from the battery up to the headlight switch and back out to the lights. There are a few good threads on it.
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=397695 You'll end up with brighter lights and a much lower electrical load on your headlight switch. I don't know squat about mounting the grille but I do prefer the quad lights. Using a GMC grill and hood on my '66 Sub. Last edited by FreakyMalo; 01-20-2012 at 07:59 PM. |

Quote:
When the 4 lamp system is switched to high beams, the normal low beam filament in the low beam bulbs go out and power is switched to the dim filament, resulting in power output similar to a 2 lamp system - the high beam lamps providing almost all of the primary light. If you’re having wiring problems beyond the grounds, the diagram on this post may help. There’s also information on how to keep the low beam bulbs on full power when switching to high beams: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=387693 |
