Cutting is what the OP didn't wanna do but yeah with 24"s you'll have to cut something! Nothing wrong with that in my book.

I think the t-bird/cougar or 'vette route is the way to do IRS in any fullsize especially a 'burb.

Maybe I'm wrong altogether and you'll be fine with this IRS and an blown LS motor to boot. But consider resale when you start listing your build and a prospective buyer hears "mazda rearend"

HAHA.. i dont build with that in mind.. I'm a fan of the T-bird rear ends as well, harder to work with. I build for the wow factor and to break necks, I dont really care about re-sale. Im mostly all porterbuilt stuff up front and ill make my own rear end stuff or break the bank on a prefab setup and wait to build the motor.

Its not hp that breaks a rear end its torque the rx7 irs is weak a small block with slicks will blow one apart after a few passes.Only irs i would try is a c4 corvette one the t bird one is ok but the mustang cobra one is the same design but beefed up better.And you can get a cobra irs cheap most cobra owners that drag race will trade the irs for a mustang 8.8.

thats debatable. we have an RX rear end in a SWB right now with an escalade 6.0 and he BEATS on it. no problems in over 25k miles, not to mention the original miles were probably over 100k

That lq4 is only 300hp and 325 foot pounds of torque tho.

I guess it doesnt really matter. No matter how you look at it you are going to have to clear the pumpkin.. luckily for me the rear floor is wood.
