Have to push windshield wiper switch in to wipe window..
Converted my switch from the 67 68 position to the 69+ style (new bezel).
Anyway last little while I have to 'push' in the switch instead of turning it for the wipers to work. Bad connection (tried makign sure it was tight, I made a exteneded harness with spade clips etc, but that didnt fix it). Could the switch be going bad or what? also they go 'clickity clack' I lubed the linkage under the cowling but still clickity clackity Thanks

Re: Have to push windshield wiper switch in to wipe window..
The wiper switch makes and breaks the ground side of the wiper motor so there's no hot wires to it just in case you didn't know that. In order to make the ground connection the switch must be grounded well to the dash, and back to the battery negative. The push in position is for the washer. It would seem that if the washer position worked then the switch would be grounded.???? You might have a connection problem on the high and low speed wires a the switch, The switch could be bad or the wiper motor might not be grounded to the cab. The fuse is on the hot side of the wiper motor circuit so it is good or the motor would not work at all.
You have a light blue and a dark blue for the speeds and a black for the washer.

Re: Have to push windshield wiper switch in to wipe window..
Mine does the same thing, I can get mine to work by wiggling the plug on the back of the switch, its got a bad connection. it will last a few months after so I never bothered to clean the contacts. I hear the same sound when I push in on the switch, I'm pretty sure what I'm hearing is the washer pump, it doesn't make the sound when just the wipers are working, maybe that's what you're hearing as well?
Try cleaning the male and female connections on the back of the switch. Posted via Mobile Device |

I'll try cleaning and some dielectric grease and go from there I guess.

It might do that if the set screw in the knob was not screwed in all the way. The knob would turn on the shaft when you tried to turn it on, but would work when you push in on it... Check that. LockDoc

Re: Have to push windshield wiper switch in to wipe window..
John,my truck was like this I had to push the wiper switch to wash for the wipers to work. I replaced the wiper switch with a used one and have not had a problem out of them. You might also check the connector the metal tang inside the plastic may need bent back to where it makes contact, I had this problem on a 95 LT1 Mass air flow sensor on my 69 Camaro. Just some thinks you might try....Daniel

Re: Have to push windshield wiper switch in to wipe window..
It works good for a few times if I wiggle the wires around (WAS on left, I converted to a later dash and had to make a wiring extension to mount it on right side of steering wheel) Never had a problem before?..Works good If I wiggle wires but doesnt stay that way? Maybe make them tighter?

Re: Have to push windshield wiper switch in to wipe window..
John, I would check all the connections. It sounds like it is loosing contact. It is hard to explain about the metal contact inside the plastic plug. It is metal and is spring loaded to make contact with the wiper switch when you plug it in. Sometimes this contact can get bent back and it will fail to make contact. If this is the problem all you will need to do is take a small flat screw driver and bend the contact back. Hope you get it fixed......Daniel
