Engine stands to install 7.4 in my 63 GMC
Hey all,
Can anyone tell me if there is a tried and true direct bolt in set of engine mounting stands on the market that will allow me to directly bolt my 2000 vintage 7.4 (454) into my 1963 GMC shortbed 1/2 ton? Any accurate information would be greatly appreciated...... |

Re: Engine stands to install 7.4 in my 63 GMC
We used the CPP tubular motor mounts on my buddys 63. They are advertised for LS/SB , but we had no problems with the BB. I also plan on using them for my BB conversion in my 63.

They run $129 a set and come powder coated......Forgot to add...we used small block pads and you will want to get the poly mounts, not rubber. The big blocks tend to tear up the rubber mounts in my experience.

Re: Engine stands to install 7.4 in my 63 GMC
It depends on what look you want, and your budget.
The original motor mount brackets will set the engine very close to the firewall, so some firewall modification will likely be necessary. Another otpion would be the '67-'72 small block motor mount brackets, These move the engine to the forward set of holes in the frame and crossmember. Plenty of firewall clearence. Then there is the '68-'71 big block motor mount brackets. These position the engine in between the above mentioned brackets. These are designed to use a big block specific motor mount, but the standard motor mounts will work. The '73 and up motor mounts and brackets will work, but they require drilling a couple holes. With this style of mount, the brackets from a C20 or C30 will fit the early frames better.
