Rear sliding glass option?
Hey Guys, I thought I would ask the experts.
Did any 67-72 trucks come with a rear sliding widnow as an option? If so how do I tell an original from and aftermarket and are they worth anything? I am looking at a parts truck that has a factory tilt and tach and the guy claims the rear slider is also factory. A quick response would be appreciated. Thank, Litdave

Yes it was an option. It will be listed on glove box options if original and glovbox sticker is intact.
Other than that, it would be had to tell you what an original looks like. I do know the glass parts in the center and each piece slides sideways and it latches in the middle. It'll also have a brushed steel look to it. Anything that has the "black out" treatment is aftermarket.

I recently bought and installed one in my truck, it appears to be made out of brushed aluminum, and has 4 panes (2 slide out). I don't know if it is original, but I don't really see how it should matter, unless you are doing a 100% factory correct resto. It slides for cheap, thats why I like it.

Well lets bring back the dispute over sliders... whats factory?.... I have a few sliders even different types... but this one I figure is the originals around here. My preference is the two latches to lock the windows on each side. Pics to follow.

The picture from GMC69 is what you want.
It has the fat brushed aluminium frame. There can be 2 types of these that I have seen. Earlier models have the big fat rubber window channels on the bottom/top to guide the window as it slides. Later models don't have the rubber channels. The OEM mfg name is on the window clasp. It is the same OEM mfg name on the 73-87 Chevy's too. I can't recall right now what it is. That's what I look for.

What I posted is the original slider ... as far as I can figure it was used on all Canadian made trucks and some US too... I have never pulled any other type out of a truck that had the A28 slider option... I have pulled a few other types that had the single clasp.... and those are the ones I sell cheap... cause they are no where near as secure as the dual handled sliders.
I have two single clasp... three dual clasp, and a wierd type that screwed in. I have one that has a factory tint also, but I have one broken pane of glass in that one... think I'll find another....I've been looking a long time for that. For example the trucks I have pulled sliders out of that had the factory tinted glass option and a slider , the slider was not tinted for some reason. I'm not saying that the single clasp type were not used as a factory product, but it seems they may have used a variety of suppliers. Oh.... and the single clasp type some say was original on there trucks had the wording Prestige on the clasp. I have some with no wording on the clasp but have the mentioned rubber bumpers on the end of the sliding runners and use felts also ... its brand name is Guardian on a piece of the glass. So... the debate rages on. The decal I posted on my slider is GP which is for Guaranteed Products Inc. All have the fat brushed aluminum finish. The pic I posted above has the rubber surround also. I have seen both rubber surrounds on slider with or without the stainless trim on sliders.

The one that was in my truck when I bought it was a little too modern.

the one I bought says that on the single clasp. when I first bought it, it wouldn't hold, it was too loose...but when i took the clasp off to sand the rust off and paint it silver, and then put it back on, it now latches very securely.

69GMC, your window is exactly like the one in my Chevy. Ours may not be 100% correct, but I think these sliders are much bettern no slider!

1969 GMC: Yes, it is Prestige. I looked this weekend.
Gee_Emm: I generally see them on the option sheet (FWIW). My K20 has it listed also.

my truck had a rear slider from the factory, it had this big ass handles on the ends of the pains of glass and a goofy latch in the center. It was made out of brushed aluminum I took it out and installed a good quality after market slider. I still have the factory slider stored in a box, along with my factory buckets on the loft in my barn out back.
