Which calipers to get with core swap.

I'm putting discs on my '69 step using the disc assembly the PO had on my previous '69 fleet. I am thinking of getting fresh new calipers from AuotZone, giving them my cores. They gave me different part #'s for either '71 or '72. Does anyone know what the difference might be between the two years, and which would be preferable? Do '72's maybe have a slightly larger piston or something?
Thanks.

Re: Which calipers to get with core swap.

71 and 72 have the same diameter pistons, the difference is where the brake hose attaches to the caliper, 71's are unique, I would compare your cores (since you know they fit) with the replacements and choose the ones that match.
You could buy which ever ones you wish as long as you get the brake hoses that fit the caliper.
But beware that the hard line fitting on the passenger side is also a different size from 71 and 72 so you would also have to change that (which requires some cutting and flaring, or changing the entire hard line)

You will probably have to take the old ones in to match them.

I see that 71 is 71 only at O'Reilly's in both the rebuilt and new Wagner calipers.

The 72 Uses the same caliper that fits most full size cars from 71 to 78 and trucks from 72 to 78.

Each link should be able to give you a photo of the respective caliper.

They seem to use the same pads so I'd say it's either piston size or probably the angle or way the hoses attach to the caliper.

Re: Which calipers to get with core swap.

Thanks! I'll be putting in new lines anyway, so I'm good then. I'm going to run the brakes manually, and someone suggested, for the disc/drum setup, that I use a master from a '70-'71 Camaro and use a x-over instead of a prop valve.
I was looking to keep things uncluttered and stock looking...well, except for that whole Porterbuilt thing going on!

Re: Which calipers to get with core swap.

The 71's were in stock. 72 is a special order. No biggie.
