Re: Doug's Dream
Ok almost got the engine out, finding friends that are willing to help is impossible so its moving slow just by myself. The good news is I finally got ahold of the painter and plan on buying the parts this week.
The end goal is to have it on the road by October~ |

Re: Doug's Dream
I will definitely keep that in mind, looking at your build now. I'm thinking about replacing the entire floor board so looking at threads on the process.

Re: Doug's Dream
Sorry its taking so long to reply and pics and vids are coming I promise. Its finally happening all the parts are in the painter is ready the truck is going to be delivered to the paint and body shop this weekend for the extensive overhaul on the cab that is much needed. The engine is out the pictures will tell about half the story planning to youtube the video of how bad it really was but its out with minimal scratches. What’s all happening to the cab? Everything, as with all restorations my favorite saying is "oh the treasures you will find... and spend!" apparently the previous owner thought tiger hair was a good way to repair holes. Needless to say the cab has holes around the window, the floor has been patched to oblivion so I have decided to replace it all together. From what I can tell before sandblast the toe board is good, the roof is good, the floor is acceptable but has several patches and supports rusting out all around, and the rear of the cab looks interesting cab corners will be replaced maybe more All in all very excited to see it going to paint and body but nervous the piggy bank is gonna get hit hard on this one. Like I said before pics and vids are coming hopefully have some up tomorrow. Along with some video of trailoring her off on Sat.
New finish goal is November 3rd, my birthday! Last edited by lghtng2; 09-22-2010 at 11:51 PM. |

Re: Doug's Dream
UPDATE* Truck has been delivered to paint and body after a 30minute discussion the frame or chassis is actually from a 76' so now I am in need of a 67-72 long bed frame. For some reason I cannot post pics? I will have to try another time...

Re: Doug's Dream
yup 9" lift with 36in tires I need to measure the rims again I want to say 16" but I could be wrong. Good news found 3 possible donors the deal is going down this weekend w.e. happens will forever decide the fate of this truck either 4x4 lifted or low and street rod
I will be fine with w.e. happens so long as it doesn't hit the pocket book too much |

I say leave the 4x4 the way it is and slap some wheels on the 67, leave the patina and roll. Pretty straight truck from the passenger side. Good luck, Eric |

Re: Doug's Dream
So alot has happened, ended up buying a camper special frame to do the fbg52 from diy4x.com
( http://diy4x.com/cart/index.php?rout...product_id=122) front swap to make a 4x4 frame. Waiting on them to fabricate and send out, the donor truck is stripped down will be making a list of the goodies for sale later on. The cab is junk pics will show just how bad it really is. When I removed the gas tank the whole entire driver side of the cab dropped about an inch and a half!!! Anyways lots of pics coming I promise may end up just making a website to host them all. All that said needing some good pics of factory 4x4 frames to get an idea of what needs to move. Last edited by lghtng2; 10-13-2010 at 03:56 AM. |

Re: Doug's Dream
Anybody know what engine this is from my best guess it is either a 305 or a 350 judging by the numbers on the intake... 346260 GM

Re: Doug's Dream
Well here's some much needed updates. Trying my best to get pics on here, chopped the top on the blue truck almost completely disassembled. Ordered the DIY4X.com FGB52 conversion kit hoping to have it by the weekend we'll see.
Break down of the chassis's will commence this Friday and build up will be later on in the week. With all that said its time to go get some sand paper and start refurbishing the smaller parts to re-use and or sell. |

Re: Doug's Dream
I bought the dash from a former member on here, I believe you can get it through LMC now... I ordered all new autometer gauges separate believe me when I say not cheap$$$$ Definitely shop around and know what you are buying difference in mechanical, short sweep electric, to full sweep electric.
But Autometer is grade A gauges. I will post if I find it again or something similar. -Jon |

Re: Doug's Dream
*Update* Today I broke down the 72' Camper Special frame and hope to do the 4x4 conversion install tomorrow morning... finished making my shop table very stout, working on restoring some parts; pics are coming! I plan on making a separate thread on a complete how-to on the 4x4 conversion for anyone that is interested.
