Drum Brakes Question!

Hey Guys,

Rebuilding the rear brakes on my K10 and have a few questions.

I keep reading about some "wavy washers" that should be there? But I have taken mine apart, and do not see anything of the sort. Possible they have been lost over the years, or do some set ups just not have them? Anyone have a picture of what they should look like?

Also, what are these and where do they go? My spring set came with four of them, but again, I do not see any of these on my truck. Help?

Thanks!!

Re: Drum Brakes Question!

I had those pieces left over too! I replaced every part, old-for-new, but ended up with those little spring things extra. My brakes work great, waaaay better than before the rebuild, so I must have not needed them. Maybe for a different year or RPO?

As for the wavy washers, at least on mine they were not obviously wavy. There was only a very slight bend in them, you really had to look close.

Re: Drum Brakes Question!

Thanks guys. ANd as for the above picture, I've seen that website. But on this picture, he says wavy washer is already installed, and I have no idea what to look for.

lube park lever pin and wavy washer, install thru rear shoe, add the "Jesus clip"

Re: Drum Brakes Question!

IIRC, The wavy washer is between the brake shoe and the white piece. It's called a spring washer. it keeps things tight.

Looks like this, but is a lot thinner.

Re: Drum Brakes Question!

Hi AJII,

Those rectangular black metal pices in your pic are plugs for the access holes found in some drum brake backing plates and might not be needed for your application. Very similar to the rubber plug used to cap the access hole to the star wheel adjuster.
