Anyone ever heard of or used one of these engines and if so are they worth a crap?
i was reading through a summit catalog-its kinda slow at work right now and im bored and i saw something i was curious about.this is an old catalog from the end of 2002.on page 38 there is an engine listed called a Recon Chevy Crate Engine
it advertises 350 horsepower out of a 350 small block its remanufactured, dyno tested and the dyno sheet comes with it, a seasoned 4 bolt main block honed with deck plate, cast crank, keith black hypereutectic pistons, hastings rings,I beam rods with arp rod bolts, clevite main and rod bearings, melling hi volume oil pump,a crane hydraulic cam-222/220 at .050,fel pro gaskets, world products sportsman 2 heads, edelbrock performer rpm intake, dynagear double roller timing chain, oil pan, valve covers and timing chain cover all this for 3,195.00 dollars. im thinking of buying a new engine in the future and was wondering if this was good bad or indifferent.i am open to suggestions to.thanks in advance

Advance Auto Parts sells these engines, or at least they used too. After what I went though with an Advance engine (not Recon), I will never buy one from Advance or anywhere else like this.
I have no idea what you would get, but I'm doubtfull it would be much better than the ones they sell at Advance. Of course I did find out that Advance contracts out their sales to the lowest bidder. The engines they sell are put together real cheap, believe me I know. Whoever does them, has to cut corners to come out. Personally, if buying a Recon engine was my decision, I wouldn't do it. I doubt Summit will warranty engines. Maybe for a month or two, but then it would be between you and the manufacturer. Buyer beware. You get what you pay for. And, if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is.

I for one would save a grand and buy the GM Performance Parts 330 horse 350. It doesn't have the intake on it like the engine you mentioned, but at least you know where it came from and if it didn't put out an honest 330 hp, GM wouldn't be selling them like they are.
Here's a link on the Sallee Chevrolet page. They are selling them for 2295 right now.
