Re: Alternator issues

What is the tension on the belt? Is the new alternator putting out any voltage? What is the voltage at idle on the battery? then at 2000 rpm at battery? If the belt is squealing its loose. Are you using the same belt as before the new alternator? Is the pulley the same size as the old alternator? Sorry for all the questions but they may help your situation.

Re: Alternator issues

What does the voltage measure at the battery?
If it is less than 13volts or so you can try the following:
  1. Take the belt off and scuff the pulleys with a bit of sandpaper to take the glaze off of them. Put on a NEW belt and make sure your tension is correct.
  2. Check the pigtail that plugs into the back of the alt and make sure the connections are clean and not frayed. Do the same for the primary charge lead which is on a separate post on the back of the alt.
  3. Take the ground connection off the bracket and clean it thoroughly.
  4. A bad cell in the battery can cause the alternator to not charge, but will show good voltage while at rest.

Re: Alternator issues

Too tight can put unnecessary strain on the bearings in your accessories, yes.
