front drop rub (one side only) ???
OK,
Something I noticed this week. As I continue to weigh my options to fix the rubbing front driver's fender well bolts to the tire after doing my spindle/coil/brake work last week, I realized something I'd not noticed before. I put some stock springs back in and now it seem apparent that the LHS tire (275/60/15) on 15x8 wheel comes "out" of the fender well maybe 1/2-3/4 inches more than the RHS. Now this would have NEVER been apparent with the stock suspension set up. There really is no evidence whatsoever that the truck was in any sort of collision (mileage, condition, tracks straight, no repair "clues" leftover, etc...), so I am a bit confude about this and I'm not sure where to measure to determine the problem. Anyone else seen this before? Suggestions on where to begin determining the problem, if there is a problem. I intend to get it lifted up a 1.5" from where it was when rubbing, before going to a 225 size tire, but I don't need tires yet. And beside that, this is just bugging me. JT |

did you have the frontend aligned after the work? I need to have mine alinged I recently lowerd it 4.5 inches in front and it rubs on both sides one more than the other I think I may have some positive camber.

No, no alignment yet...not until I've decided what I am happy with for a while. Then I'll get it done. By looking at mine, the LHS seems to have pos camber, and the RHS maybe some neg camber ...maybe.

Chances are that a front alignment will take care of the problem. You might aslo check the alignment on the "tin"......if you havent changed body bushings, its a good chance that the body has shifted on those old mounts. Good luck, crazyL

Almost all spindles push the wheel out at least 1/2 - 3/4".

problem solved
Well,
Along with all the input noted, my particular problem seemed to be a abundance of camber shims on the driver side which I located last night. Pulled a several out, snugged my short coils back in and (drumroll...) no more tire rub! Man is that ever nice. fiveeightchevy- thanks for the reminder cdowns- the rims are the same offset crazyL- yes, an alignment will be in order soon I have piece of mind knowing that there is not some major flaw to this vehicle. Thanks! JT |

yeap, i have quite a few shims more on my drivers side than i do on the pass. side.
its noticable that the tire sticks out more. after i pull the engine i'm gonna sale my coils and buy some different ones, and make sure that the alignment shop puts the same amount of shims on both sides. |
