'85 One Ton SRW Diesel
This project began late last year when I purchased this truck:
1985 K30 Scottsdale SRW - 6.2L Diesel Engine - SM465 Transmission - NP205 Transfer Case - Dual Fuel Tanks - Air Conditioning - 4.10 Axle Ratios - G80 Locking Rear Diff

The Truck was special ordered by Arco Oil & Gas and delivery was made 01-09-1985 in Dallas, Tx.
Upon vehicle delivery it was shipped to Nigeria to work in the oil fields as the drilling foremans personal truck where it remained until 1993 when the drilling operation was shut don and all personnel and equipment was returned to the US. Upon repatriation Arco Oil & Gas sold the vehicle to the Drilling Foreman for use on his ranch where the truck remained until December 2011 when I purchased the vehicle. It came with the complete set of records and only had 93,000 Original Miles when I flew out to Houston and after only changing all the fluids drove the truck back here to Jacksonville, FL. The first item of business when I got home was to fix the Glow Plug Control circuit.
The problem I had was that the truck would never glow for more than 5 seconds even when it was in the 20's a few nights. First thing i did was to check all of the glow plugs. I did this by removing them one by one and connecting them to a hot battery. I found that only 4 of the plugs were still any good and this still didn't explain my short glow timing. While I had them all out I went ahead and replaced all 8 Glow Plugs with AC Delco 60Gs. I liked the fact that they were self-regulating but they definitely heat up much slower. After verifying good battery voltage to the controller and that the engine temp switch and starter engaged signals were functioning properly I narrowed down my problem to be the Glow Plug Controller itself. After reading many posts on here and elsewhere about the never ending problems with this circuit I made the decision to convert this truck to a Manual Glow Control Set-up. I did the conversion using a Starter Solenoid for a Ford 351w V-8 and a Momentary Push Button inside the cab. Ever since these modifications the truck starts easily no matter how long it has been sitting or what the outside temperature is. As an added bonus I don't think anyone else could get my truck started and take off in it!

Power steering pump has been getting steadily worse for the last month and started getting a leak at the pitman arm seal on the steering box.
So yesterday I decided to do something about it. Started by pressure washing the engine bay, then removed the power steering pump and the steering box. Overhauled the power steering pump yesterday afternoon and hoping to get to the power steering box today. It always amazes me how many seals and o-rings are in the steering box.

Finished the power steering box last week and it is so nice to have power steering back again!

For future reference when you need to check the glow plugs, you dont have to remove them. Un hook the wires from all the glow plugs, next hook the a test light to positive post on the battery and touch the spade on the glow plug. If the light lights the plug is good if it doesn't the plug is bad.
