What year axles are interchangable?
1. I am in need of a front disk 8 lug front end. (rear is already 3/4 ton) What years can I get this off of?
2. What are the highest (numercally) gears available in stock form? I priced around some shops and I was quoted $2K to change the front and rear to 4:56 from 3:73!! Holy crap!! I would like to find the right gears in the axle i buy and only have to change the rear gears if possible. (Dream on right). Thanks.

you can use any 73-88 truck or 73 to 91 suburban front end...if you wanna dana 44 then they ran from 73 to 77ish or so...then gm switched to 10 bolts...either will bolt in just fine...

The only difference will be the brake line banjo fitting changed from standard to metric in the late 70s. Should be able to find 4.10s, harder to find 4.56s.
