what size socket will i need to remove the trailing arms?? 72 c10
Also I thought of cutting the U bolts on the axle, but was curious if the replacement U bolts are available at all anywhere?? Rockauto had universal ones but im not sure if they are the correct ones or not,

The ubolts are 3/4" rod using a 1 1/16" socket.. Soak'em and save'em with wd. Impact wrench is easiest if you have it up in the air but a breaker bar with extension pipe works - slower.
The front bolts holding the arms are bigger and use a 1 1/8" socket. It is hard to get an impact on them but if you cannot, use breaker bars. They are course thread but probably have been on from the beginning. A 2 ton floor jack using a 3/4" drive breaker bar broke the nuts loose. I held the other side with s 1/2" breaker bar. The nut had to give under the weight of the truck and 2 tons of upward pressure. |

On those U bolts, emphasis on the 3/4" drive breaker bar and socket. I twisted a couple of 1/2" drives right off before I stepped up to 3/4", needed a heck of a cheater pipe even after liberal doses of penetrating oil for a week prior.
