My dash bezel reconstruction

Here is some pics of my dash i am messing with redoing, before and after pics.
It was a standard woodgrain dash i got from teeitup (thank you randy) and i had the tach dash set up from a 70.

The chrome paint is not chrome at all, how they make the edges and bezels chrome is beyond me, i searched and found nothing.

Where is bled under the tap will be touched up black, and the needles are going to be repainted orange. Only issue is the numbers and letters on the glass, a couple other them are ruff, and i'm sure i can't find that funky green to repaint them.
Anyway, enjoy.

Re: My dash bezel reconstruction

The chrome appearance created on the plastic is a process called 'vacuum metallizing'....sort of a simple plastic plating process.
It is a really inexpensive way to make plastic look like chrome and is used in all sorts of automotive applications and a lot of other industries.
However, it is very easy to ruin it with cleaners, abrasives, etc.
The spray bomb 'chrome' is definitely not the same stuff.
Good Luck

Re: My dash bezel reconstruction

The $$ hasn't changed hands yet (hopefully tonight) but we have a verbal deal. No motors or trans (I don't think) but 2 shortbed frames (1 blasted, painted complete air bagged, like new), 1 68 front clip, 1 71 clip and fleetside bed, both cabs are rusty. Boxes and boxes of replacement panels, parts, etc, at least 4 doors. Basically two trucks worth of stuff......

Re: My dash bezel reconstruction

Headed over there now to finalize the deal and inventory everything, going to take lots of pics. He said we get everything but the stepside bed and the vintage air setup (I didn't even know there was a vintage air setup when I threw him a price , no tellin what else is in there).
