GMC console emblem?
As part of my restoration I'm re-doing the console in my 1970 Sierra Grande; it does not look like anyone reproduces the console emblem (it says GMC).
I could polish my original out, but it's painted in a way that will make it tough to make look right. It's only painted in the deeply recessed area, not all recessed areas. I also discovered that if you look at the backside of it, it's embossed with the Chevy bowtie. I'm guessing they saved money by using the same die for both the Chevy and the GMC, even though the GMC is different on the front! Anyone know if there's a repro I've missed in my searching? Thanks! Re: GMC console emblem?
I spent more time looking for a reproduction online and in catalogs than it actually took me to polish it. Not sure if they were polished or brushed from the factory though, mine was so worn it was hard to tell.
Turned out not bad for a 40-year-old high wear piece though! |

Re: GMC console emblem?
That looks nice polished. I noticed the Bowtie on the rear of the GMC emblems too. All the Chevy and GMC emblems I've seen look like they were a brushed finish originally.

Re: GMC console emblem?
Well, the difference between polished and brushed is about six weeks wear and tear, I figure :-p

Re: GMC console emblem?
Testors "Fire Engine Red" is a real close match to the org color for the letters.
