Your hazard light (4 way emergency lights) switch is on. I am guessing you don't have turning signals either.

I bought my truck 2 years ago in California and drove it all the way to Michigan with this issue not knowing how to fix it. My switch was broken off, hazard fuse was pulled, and I had no turn signals. A little investigating when I got home and figured it out.

I hope it helps.

Weird. It does sound like something in the emergency light circuit though. Has it always done this or did you do anything to the column or wiring lately?

For some reason weird things are happening to our trucks in the last few weeks. I just noticed yesterday that on mine the left turn signal indicator light comes on when I turn the light switch on. Doesn't blink. Just turns the indicator on. Never did that before.

I agree mine was doing that the hazards were pushed in just enough to make contact but not blink (my knob was broke)

thats probably a blown bulb or loose ground making one of the left front/back lights not work my left front parking/turn light lost it ground and the green arrow would light when the lights were on.

Sorry brand new member and was having issues with attaching picture.

My hazard light is broken and I pushed it in, as a result turn signals do not work and front amber lights come on when press brakes.

Is there a temp quick fix. What does the permanant fix look like?

amber lights in the bumper of 72's are not fog lights they are running lights/signal lights

Re: HELP When I step on the pedal the front fog lights come on?

Try needle nose pliers first to pull it out. If that doesn't work, use a small drill bit and drill just far enough so the threads start to grab and put in a small screw just far enough so the threads will grab.

By the way I found out that these are not remanufactured. There is a different part they are substituting for it. I was fortunate and found a NOS part on a suburban being parted out last fall.

Re: HELP When I step on the pedal the front fog lights come on?

It's a long-shot, but if you had a defective bulb couldn't it short from the park to brake circuits within the bulb? Then, whenever you hit the brakes, power would leak from the brake light to the entire park light circuit.

I think if that happened when you hit the brakes the side marker lights would come on as well.

I realize the hazard is pretty much the confirmed issue, just throwing it out there in case anyone has a similar problem in future and stumbles across this thread.

Re: HELP When I step on the pedal the front fog lights come on?

If the hazard warning light circuit is intact and working correctly, engaging the brake light switch will make all turn signal bulbs light steadily. Otherwise, engaging the hazard switch in a normal circuit, would make them flash...all four of them.

So, you may also have a bad/missing hazard flasher.

But, a 42-year old vehicle can't be depended upon to not have wiring/electrical and/or component issues.

This way the people in front of you know when you're braking. That's parking lamps, not fog lamps.

You can pull the button out. To fix it you need to pull the wheel and put a new canceller in

Re: HELP When I step on the pedal the front fog lights come on?

Guys I'm very grateful for your advice. It was right on.

The hazard flasher was missing on the fusebox. Once I plugged in a flasher the lights started flashing. The red button above was indeed stuck. I was able to pull it out with pliers afterwhich my turn signals started working again.

For the short term I did drill a hole in that broken hazard button and screw in a screw. End result I can easily use my hazards if needed. Thanks again everyone!

Nice job on the hazard knob! I had the same thing on a 70 GMC.
