Re: Coil is burnt up...AGAIN!!!----TBI
years back i had a similar issue and we ended up replacing the whole distributor.. there was an issue that the shaft had too much play in it or something.. its been a while and the old mempry isnt as good as it used to be

Check the tachometer test lead (if you have one) and make sure it is not grounding inadvertently.

I will probably just change the whole thing. I have a few. I have had to pull it home the last two times I drove it, both with a trailer behind it.

Tony,
Have you replaced the plug wires or checked resistance?

Re: Coil is burnt up...AGAIN!!!----TBI
May check for ground on coil... make sure all your mounting points are clean, so they will ground well. Also make sure the coil is tight in its holder.

Re: Coil is burnt up...AGAIN!!!----TBI
How do you have the coil mounted? If its on a angle and one of the poles on it is straight up a air bubble can forum there and cause it to burn out.

Re: Coil is burnt up...AGAIN!!!----TBI
Well, My 72 yo. Dad came down to the shop at 10;30 pm, which is very unusual. I decided to replace the whole distibutor and the coil with one I knew was good after Autozone said a module would be $42. I already had a new cap and rotor sittn in my shop.
I coulnd't get everything lined up right. He did has dad magic and got it running again!!! Made my day. We had it goin in about 45 minutes. Gotta get a timing light now. Starts and runs great. Just gotta do a test drive. thanks guys.....except gray harville.

under the coil is a part (sorry cant remember off hand) that has a spring on it and it sits under the coil. I forgot that once and it burnt up my coil.
