Anyone ever make their own cowl hood?

Got a free hood and figured i would try to make one. Im not sure about what im going to do yet, i made some measurements of what i think would look decent and went for it. I havent started filling in the sides or any body work yet just measured and cut.

If anyone has any advice or something you think i should do let me know.

I like the width of it but it looks too high. I think more suble 2-3" rise would look better

I agree it is a little high, if i would set everything as is in the pic it would set at about 4 and 5/8in high i was thinking of doing about a 4in but idk yet, im gonna mess around with it some until i get something i like. I have always like a little larger cowl but not anything ridiculous, my buddy has a home made cowl for his 76 ford and it sits at about 5in and looks good but thats still pretty big.

Give me a ram air hood any day over a boring cowl hood. Although it looks like you've got a good start on yours. I'll be watching this build for pointers and info for sure.

yep made one once, it was on a 98 chev, NEVER AGAIN... lol its cheaper to just buy one. Which I have done many times, hoods are horrible to weld back up, you will be spot welding forever...

but good luck, its a learning experience

I want to at least do something with this hood, if i do it and dont like it i can just throw it in the scrap pile, after all it was a free hood no big deal. If it does turn out decent the truck its going on wont get driven very much anyway.
Ill just play around with it some till i find something that i like and go for it.

Re: Anyone ever make their own cowl hood?

my friends grandpa took a hood off a old murray lawn mower and made a pretty good looking hood.
