AUX Heat in a burb
anybody have pictures of a aux heat unit in the rear of a burb? I would like to add on if i can find one and its location does not mess up other plans i have.

I never new this year subs have AUX heater boxes in the rear?
Was this dealer add-on or OEM ? Any ideas of donor vehicles for this ?

Flex-a-lite makes a prety nice one. Read a review in some 4x4 mag. They put it in a jeep and it supposedly worked pretty good.

BTW its available from Summit for 149.95. manutacturer is flex a lite consolidated, part number is 640.

To my memory, the auxiliary heater was located under the 2nd (center) seat. There is at least one pic in the original accessories brochure for 1972. I have one, but unfortunately don't have a scanner. Maybe someone can provide a scan if they have this brochure. I think the aux heater is also covered in the original 1972 service manual.

Did some checking last night...according to accessory catalog and service manual, aux heater was a dealer-installed accessory. In the Suburban it was located under the 2nd seat, in the panel it was on the left side a little further back. The service manual provides multiple pictures and a thorough description of how the system is designed.

If you are planning aftermarket AC maybe using a small coupe'/pick-up type unit would fit and have an auxillary heater.

I don't know if its original or not, but my '71 1/2 ton 4X4 Sub has rear heat. It appears identical to the '73-up heater box, but mine is on the drivers side back corner whereas the '73 up is on the passenger side back corner. The control switch doesn't appear aftermarket, and is located exactly where the aux tank select switch was on a parted-out cab I had(on the extreme left side of the dash metal). Alaskans NEED rear heat in a suburban!
