Look what I picked up today. Who says you can't still buy door panels from the dealer? These are exactly like the ones that came on it stock.

Now to answer the questions I know I will get.

First, these are not Silverado panels. They sell two different kind, with Silverado and except Silverado. My truck was a Custom Deluxe and I didn't want Silverado panels anyway. I didn't want the upholstery panel and door pocket. These are for manual doors, as they have the round window crank hole. My truck is power so all I have to do is cut the round hole, square. It is exactly where the switch is located at.

I ordered some Landau black dye from Eastwood. Went ahead and bought the Plastic prep and sand free kit too.

So, these cost me $47 bucks each, and the belt weathestripping was another $17 bucks each. Not as cheap as I first thought but not too bad for original GM panels, brand new. List price was $63 each and $23 each.

hot damn! So, those are the good GM door panels right mike? Do you have part #'s by chance? I may just buy those instead of recovering mine. Did you get a choice of colors?

They only come in Charcoal. Yes, original GM parts, just like the stock ones were, except for the switch hole. Part numbers are 15597667 driver side & 15597668 passenger side. The belt weatherstripping is 15569071 driver side & 15569072 passenger.

There's no comparison between these and the junk Coverlays I bought. These are sort of soft like stock were. The Coverlays are hard, thin plastic. Squeak like a mother where they rub on the door. I'm so sick of those things I could puke. And to think, I gave 200 bucks for that junk. When am I going to learn. That's what the parts manager at the Chevrolet dealer asked me. I done the same thing on a stock grille not long after I got my truck. Didn't even come with an emblem. I could have bought one from the dealer, with emblem for less.

I checked there and you are right, they do have a cheap starting price, but by the time they add shipping and tax (for me, since they are in NC), I would have saved 11 bucks on all four pieces. Then I would have had to wait a week or two. I guess $11.00 is worth the wait. But, would they have sent me one to look at first? Would they have let me take it home and make sure it would fit etc. before, and I say, before even paying for it? Then if I had ordered them and they didn't work for whatever reason, I would have had to ship them back, at my cost. So, for me, it was a no brainer. If I can buy something local and it be as easy as it was for these, 11 dollars is worth it. I've been through the buying stuff on the internet and have to send it back deal too many times.

GReat find Mike. If you wanted to dye them a lighter color like tan could you do that or does Eastwood advise against it?

You "late model" guys just suck. I wish they were still available in the 73-80 style.

Mike is right about www.gmpartsdirect.com, they will rape you on shipping. There are a few other internet GM parts dealers that aren't as well known, but give the same or better deals, and don't kill you on shipping.

Mike, prep work is the key to making the dye stay on. Pre-clean, pre-pre-clean, and then clean again before you lay anything on them...

i'm gonna order some of those panels ASAP. and do the same thing you did mike, order the standard ones and cut them for power windows. i hate the straps and pockets on mine.

Yeah, I know all about the cleaning part. I dyed the ones I have now. Worked great. I used the Plastic prep and dye Eastwood sells. It still looks like new. I cleaned them with pre paint prep.

Ryan, the round hole for the manual crank is the only way they come without Silverado options. The Silverado panels had holes for the works, door pocket, cloth upholstery panel and all. I didn't want any of that crap.


Brandon,

looking at the back of the new panels, they have numbers for blue, tan or saddle, and a red. But I don't think they sell them anymore. The parts guy told me they only come in Charcoal now. I would think if you are going to go lighter, you would need to use some light gray primer. Eastwood sells primer for plastic. Anything they sell will work. They are the best for speciality stuff like that.

Ryan,

it only has the one round hole in each panel. It's located right where the window switch is. So, you will have to cut a hole for the window swith. This won't be hard to do. The plastic is not hard, just like a stock panel. A sharp utiilty knife will do the trick, if you don't slip when cutting it.

Sure do. Primered gray ready for dying. Part number 15641405. I paid $217 and change, tax included, back in April 2001. Remember now, when you buy from the dealer, you only get what you buy. No extra stuff comes with anything. All you get with the dash pad, is the dash pad. No trim, but they do have it too.
