1969 Escalade??
So now that I'm really deep into my project, I wanted to get some feedback on an idea I had yesterday while I was out riding my motorcycle.
What would you all think if someone fabbed a new grill and maybe some taillights or something, and badged a 1969 Suburban as an Escalade. Perhaps use some 60's Cadillac parts on the interior or elsewhere, put an LQ9 Engine cover on a 5.3 for the Caddy badges, and some other stuff here and there. I thought it might be fun to be a little different. I've seen a Burb shortened and called a Tahoe, (FrizzleFry) and that turned out awesome, so why not an Escalade?? It's so crazy, I just might have to do it. |

Well, from the responses (none) I would say that the readers (11) are less than thrilled with the idea, but the way I look at it is that a lot of ideas sound a little strange but actually come out looking really good in the end.... I say go for it if you want to try it. It probably wouldn't be anything you couldn't reverse at a later date if you wanted to. Some modifications like that are hard to visualize without seeing them drawn out on paper or in a picture. LockDoc

Get your ideas together really well and then have someone render it for you. Could save you a lot of trouble down the road.

Re: 1969 Escalade??
If it's done right, it will be very cool.
Which usually equates to mega cost in getting it to your minds eye, unless you are the fabricator, mechanic, upholsterer, electrician, and painter with lots of time and space. Not to be a Johny raincloud, but the Suburban is a huge project to just get looking great in stock or semi stock form. I say if you got all that covered. Go for it!

Re: 1969 Escalade??
I had a whole reply typed up as to why I wouldn't do it. But it's your ride. Do what you want to do with it, so you'll be proud to drive it. That's all that matters.

Re: 1969 Escalade??
I'm just in the painting stage of my '72, caddy 500 motor, 3 rows of escalade black leather seats, took out the spare tire well, graphed 2004 escalade tail lights. Can't wait till its done. Call it a Subdeville. There are a lot of "purists" out there who will shout out there negative comments but I say go for it. Remember that you'll probably never get close to your money back for a custom, but that's not why we do it.

In other news, I think I will start a full build thread later in the week. I had a couple other teaser threads, but I think it's time to go all out. Stay tuned. |

Re: 1969 Escalade??
I think the best body mods (either mild or extreme) are the ones that are subtle enough to look like they could be factory, and may even fool most people who aren't familiar with that particular body style. I like the idea of using period correct, factory parts from a different vehicle, it could work. People will either love it or hate it.

Re: 1969 Escalade??
As long as you are not building it for re-sale or profit, go for it. No matter what you do some will like it, some will not. All that matters is that you do! I for one think you should go for it. I love customs like you have described.
