Gotta wild hair,,, :)

We finally got all the leaks fixed on our sun porch. And my husband and I had talked about taking out the old linoleum tiles and replacing with ceramic tiles. Well, Lowes had a deal that we couldnt pass up, and VIOLA!! I have a new project. Thomas and I pulled up tiles and I got the first dozen new tiles in. The top pic is part old tiles, part wood under neath, the big rectangle is that Florida sun shining on us! the bottom pic is the first tiles, (had to stop to make dinner). Now remember, all yall professional tile guys, im just a mom, not a seasoned tile dude, so go easy. I think its going to brighten our porch up so much, me so excited!!

Re: Gotta wild hair,,, :)

Looking good so far, I don't care to do tile work. Gail did the fireplace surround, the kitchen area floor (which Ive since pulled up because she decided she liked wood better, and she did that too) and the back plash in the kitchen and the bathroom.

Re: Gotta wild hair,,, :)

Thanks yall!! I love doing tile, well, as long as it is my own. I gutted my master bathroom last year, had that old 50 pink tile. Took out everything but the ceiling, (floor was rotted underneath too) I had fun, it was s great workout, and the bathroom looks awesome, I cant wait to get this done, next project: pull carpet in the dining room and build book shelves!!!

Next thing you know, you will be putting on seminars at Lowes on sat mornings.
From way up north, here, it looks pretty good.

Looks good. We tiled a little duplex about 5 years ago. I hated it. Looks like you are doing a good job.

That looks as good as the pros in my opinion. And it makes the house look a whole lot different I bet! My father is getting into the decorative tile now and its looking pretty cool.

Re: Gotta wild hair,,, :)

looks pretty darn good. tile layers make good money around here for some reason.

I personally have no taste for stone floors of any kind in living spaces. it probably has something to do with our sub-zero winter temps and having heathens running around with Correll dishes (smash-darn)

Re: Gotta wild hair,,, :)

LOL, thanks yall, just laid another 2 boxes, gotta make a Lowes run tomorrow. Hard to get alot done when I have few precious hours after wrok to do it. I think the community would be safe in that I WOULDNT be teaching classes, and I dont think my back would approve of me doing it for a full time job, mabey 20 years ago, lol. The old ugly dark linoleum tiles made the porch look dark and gloomy. These are already brightening it up. Soon as I get it done, Ill be posting pics of the finished floor and looking for design ideas to make it the perfect relax room. I dont have too much decorative flair, lol. A hot tub would be awesome, .... after the kids grow up and move out, lol. Thanks again, yall always make everything fun!

Re: Gotta wild hair,,, :)

Hey yall, I'm 11 boxes in, and finally finished the center of the first half of the floor. The rest has to be cut to fit. Not getting done today. My body keeps trying to tell me that Im too old for this stuff. Hope to finish the first half by next weekend!

Re: Gotta wild hair,,, :)

I hope you don't have problems in the near future with the tiles popping or cracking.

It's usually not recommended to lay tiles on plywood because the wood will pull too much moisture out of the thinset, prohibiting a good bond. A concrete backerboard is a safer bet.

I've got my fingers crossed for you

Re: Gotta wild hair,,, :)

Its pretty straight, but not perfect. Prolly gonna go with a med beige color, dont want to go to light. Raceman, yeah, we were told that after I was about half done. Im hoping not to have issues either. If so, then I will have to deal with it. Thanks for all the comments, Im having fun with ti.

Raceman I got that same advice 3 months after I finished mine. I figured I would not have any problems since my house has 3/4" T/G plywood floors, but like you said it is actually a moisture issue more than flex. Six years later it is still there but I do have a few cracked tiles and had to replace a section of grout.
