Any tips or tricks to installing window felt?

Just got some new weatherstripping in and I have it sitting in the sun to warm it up. Any tips for install?

Been doing some searching on it and do I have to remove the vent window to replace the window channel?? Might wait till weekend to tacke this one..

Click the link below. It is a "how-to" I put together that might help you. I haven't got around to completing the installation process, but it is just the opposite of removal. Pretty straight forward. Feel free to PM me if you need more info. I have replaced every piece of rubber on my truck and am familiar with it all.

And to answer your question, you do not have to remove the vent window to replace the window channel. You will probably want to loosen the screw that holds the rear window channel in place on the door. This will allow you to "scoot" the glass towards the outer door skin and out of its track so you can easily get to the window channel felt/rubber that runs the length of the front, top and back channels.

There is a little piece of metal bracing on new weather stripping that is designed to go at the top corner of the door where the vent window channel meets the top of the door. It is designed to be pressed in place upon installation of the vent window assembly. I ended up just cutting them off of my new weather stripping, but only did so to allow a little more room for adjustment of the window and ease of operation.

On the first door I removed the 3 screw and the bolt holding the vent window in place, so I could wiggle it around like you mentioned. Sprayed the rubber down with some soapy water and it went in pretty easy.

The second door was a PITA. I left the vent window alone to see if it would go in just as easy. And it did not. Had to keep rolling window up and down just to get a 1/4" at time down the track.. oh well. Job done!
