How Long has it taken you to restore your truck?

I am curious about how long it has taken individuals on here to restore their projects. I see lots of builds go for many years and continue to evolve.... so I thought I would post this for fun!

Mine took 2 1/2 years to be driveable again. Today marks exactly 3 years, and I'm still not "finished" with the original plan. "Done" is not a word recognized by these trucks.

3 1/2 years from the time I tore it apart to the time I was able to start it up and drive it under its own power. Took that long becuase I worked on it when time ( and money!) allowed.

Been apart and together a couple of times....6mths or so each time I guess. In fact....after getting my carb'd LSx powered and freshened up '68 going....pulled apart again to swap to efi (given to me). Its been apart about 3wks or so and actually just bought a 4L85e to hook up the electronic trans control harness and replace the 200-4r as my '09 LY6 has the DBW throttle body...which won't work too well with a TV cable. So I guess I'm fixen' to pull the trans too.

then...once all the hardware is in place later this year or next, and interior pieces acquired....I'll blow it all apart again to paint it. Its a never ending thing I think.....

This got me to wondering how long it's been since I took my Panel apart. This is the first thing I did after I got the body off-fix the rear of the frame. Looks like I uploaded this picture 3-7-09

I will have been working on mine 1.5 years on the 18th of June, I am hoping to drive in by the end of June (2012 that is).

Think mine is a never ending story, second time I have owned it so by mid winter I am hoping.

I'm on 3 or 4 years now and have a loooong way to go. If money wasn't a issues maybe another year.

Did a 71 step in late 80s early 90s. Hauled it home in pieces for $200 bucks
And entered it in its first show 4 1/2 years later.....

For me....I get them in...75% or better condition and only original. I don't have the space, the shop and the time for a ground up.
As well, I just couldn't do it with good conscience and still want to drive my truck...go figure.
I do believe in weekend upgrades tho'...like brightwork, the odd mechanicals when needed, interior odds and sodds.
So in short the restoration, such as it is, is still underway....but never in the way of driving it.

I didn't completely restore my truck but I did do a lot. I gutted the cab, all glass and removed the hood and bed. To dissasemble everything, do the body work (including making all my own body tools) prime paint and reassemble took me four months. During the next year I slowly replaced things like the tranny, brakes system, starter, alternator, tie rods, wheel bearings, etc. Mine was pretty much done after that.

Sounds like I have been shooting for the stars then for wanting to finish my complete frame off in 10 months lol I think I would go nuts if it took any longer! I'm in month 7 of mine and cant wait to get this thing done and back on the road!

I'd never "restore" a vehicle... I drive the snot out of them. Mine will always be a work in progress. 6 years and counting...
