1970 C30 10 Lug?
A question for the chevy truck enthusiast here:
I just went to look at a potential parts truck today that has been sitting in this womans yard for a while. All she knew was that it was a 1970 chevy truck. It is a C30 according to the badges and VIN, but what threw me off was that it had ten lugs on the front and rear. The SPID is not there. It has the cab lights indicating that it is a heavy duty truck, but the fenders seemed like the larger ones that dont match up to the half tons. Did they make a heavier duty C30 that had the larger panels or are my eyes just decieving me? Also I have not seen one with ten lugs, my other C30 only has eight. Would this indicate that it is more than a C30? Any input is appreciated.

Re: 1970 C30 10 Lug?
your looking at a 3 ton truck i had a 1966 bobtail that was a C60 and it had way different fenders and grill Now the 1967--72 trucks if they where the big trucks if you look at the bottom of the door a small triangle peace of the bottom of the door will be missing its something about the Flares on the fenders for the doors to clear Most of the time anything that looks strange i leave it alone No use to add more problems to your build for parts that don't interchange

Thanks for the input. The differences a subtle when you are looking at it, but something was just not right.

Re: 1970 C30 10 Lug?
C/30s could be ordered with 11,000# axles that had 10 lug rear and 5 lug front in the same pattern as 40-60 series. They also had a different power brake set-up with the booster mounted under the cab and the parking brake was on the driveshaft. But,those trucks used all light duty (10-30) sheet metal.

Re: 1970 C30 10 Lug?
Is there any more info to go with these trucks? Just picked one up today (for free actually). 1969 GMC 930 (Canadian eh) 10 bolt rear wheels, 5 bolts on the front. Unidentified V8 and 4 speed. Stopped in after reading this post and sure enough it was what you guys were talking about. Told the farmer I was looking for a chassis to built a wrecker. He said as long as he could take his livestock box off the back, I could "get it outta here". Yes sir.
I know, I know......pics to follow, when I get a chance. |

Re: 1970 C30 10 Lug?
Found this mention in the RV section under "Custom Camper" requirements for C/30s. It shows an 11k axle as RPO H22 and 18 or 19.5" tires.
