Suburban engine question?????
Hi does anyone with a 1966 chevy suburban have any motor pics? What I am looking for specifically is the original color or the block from the factory. I have a 66 C20 CS that came original with a blue motor. I know this because I bought the truck from the original owner my father-in-law. I am gonna need to touch up some paint issues and am looking to verify color and that it really came that way. The reason I ask is all the research I have done says that the blue motor only came in the suburban in 66 in the 220hp version. So I am wondering if mine was ordered with the bigger motor because it was a camper special C20. My father-in-law bought it off the lot that way it was on special when he bought it. So any help would be appreciated thanks. Heres a pic of color

Re: Suburban engine question?????
Lots of info on engine colors on this forum. Use the Search feature and I'm sure you will find what color you need. Good luck.

Re: Suburban engine question?????
The blue on the engine in the pic, looks to be GM Corporate blue used from the late 70's thru the early to mid 80's.

Re: Suburban engine question?????
I thank you for the reply and I did use the search feature and google and all I came up with was the one year only blue for the 66 Suburbans hence my question but thanks again. As for the 70's era blue my father in law assures me it came stock from the dealer with that motor and color. The vin ID's the motor as 327 just no variations for the color or suburban line. I guess I'll have to try and run the numbers off the block. Thanks.

You might try sending a PM to members factorystock or OEM4me, they might be able to tell you.

Re: Suburban engine question?????
here is a good thread on engine color:
http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...d.php?t=227472 to me, it looks like your whole engine compartment has been "freshened up" at some point.. the entire master cylinder is painted black, and then the thing that looks odd to me is the lower alternator bracket and bolt, I could be wrong, but I think the bracket is supposed to be black, and I don't think the bracket and bolt were on the engine at gm when the engine was painted, so the bolt should not be blue? everything I could find for a 66 327 showed green for a truck motor, and orange for the cars.. see if that wire that goes to the temp sending unit is painted blue, (from what I see in your pic it looks like it is), it should be a green wire. also looks like the intake has been changed out, as I don't see a oil fill tube on the front. here are a couple pics of my 66 60 series 327, (which unfortunately is mostly covered in dirt )

Re: Suburban engine question?????
Thanks for your help and yes the motor has been freshened up as you put it. My father in law restored it and managed to get the duplicate color that was on it from the factory from the chevy dealer. He says it was always blue not the green that I and you would think was supposed to be on it. I have the origianal valve covers that were not repainted and they match the color except for being really dirty. Yes the intake has been upgraded. The reason for my question was to see if any 66 suburban owners had that same color as this chart that I found.
http://www.cs.siena.edu/~lederman/tr...VCCAcolor.html States that the blue was offered on the 66 only suburbans. I thought maybe I had something different or maybe even rare. I know it's very close to the blue that came on some of the 6's just hadn't seen a burb picture on this site with that color on the motor. Thanks for the insight though.

Re: Suburban engine question?????
I looked thru the link you gave and have seen that before I love the black truck and his engine color and yes mine more resembles the 6's pictured however there was one blurry pic of a V8 shown that may have been simialr but may have been a 283 not sure.

Re: Suburban engine question?????
You might check out the blue used on the 250 I6 engines, it might be the same. I would tend to think GM would have not used 2 slightly different blue engine paints back then.
