yeah Thats what I am trying figure out myself. It was like that when I bought from the PO. but it has the brackets for the springs, but it just may be for the Rubber bumpers. I seen it on another truck over a year ago had the same questions about it. I just dont want it to interfere with the new coils and all.

IIRC my 63 had a set up like that, they were overload springs of some sort. It's been several years since they have been on the truck (removed them to convert to leaf spring as part of the 4x4 conversion) and my memory of them is very vague. It's probably best to remove them anyways because those don't look very safe.
