Yes, they are coated. I checked Usps and fedex and for once Fedex was cheaper....but still $54 for shipping using $95 for customs value... Usps wanted $86??? slightly too large and too heavy for international flat rate...

you could ship them seperatly maybe and he can pay the shipping? but by time it gets shipped there and he gets it shipped from me it might not be any cheaper, i live 5 hours from him so i cant just drop it off lol

it normally runs around 25-30 in the conus depending on location...so only saving 24 off the shipping I doubt you'll get it to him for much less...
