72 mirror locations - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Finished the new door skin today and need to mount the new mirrors. Could someone please give me the measurements to the front screw on the 72 sport mirrors. The factory assembly manual has measurements but they corespond to reference points and I can not figure out how to locate the reference points. That information would be helpfull also. I do know the right mirror sits further back. I could guess, but I do not like to do that. Thanks.

If the right side sits farther back, wouldnt it be blocked by the wing window frame?

Thanks. Great to see the search function working again. Phillip, the right mirror mounts further back just for that reason. Vision is blocked by wing window post if the passenger mirror is to far forward and the drivers mirror is easier to use a little further to the front.

Put my new "sport" mirrors on today. N-I-C-E ! I had and interesting situation though in mounting mine. These type mirrors were stock on my truck, but were removed. I could see where the previous holes existed when the stock ones were mounted.

Got my door panels off, removed the filler in the holes, popped open the original holes and mounted up the new ones. Nice to NOT have to drill holes in the door.

Im confused. You said the right side is closer to the front and now you say that the drivers is closer. I just went out and looked at my trucks and both mirrors are the same distance.. I say put where they are right for you and you can see behind without anything in your way. Sport mirrors are too small for my taste. I like BIG so I can see that Kenworth comm'n at me in the rear...LOL

Hmm, just reread my post and it looks ok. The right side is the passenger side and I said the drivers is closer to the front in the second post. As far as them being small, what is behind me does not bother me. Most people dont tailgate or drive next to large lifted trucks
