Need some advise on Carpet Installation

I got my Carpet today for my 69 Chevy C20 from Classic trucks, has the pad on it, Do you take the seat out or unbolt the seat brackets and slip the carpet under. this is molded carpet but still has wrinkles . should you use an iron after you glue it down? If anyone has done this I could use some tips, Thanks

Re: Need some advise on Carpet Installation

I'd remove the seat to make it easier to install properly. Leave it in and you'll be fighting with it, but I suppose it could be done.

I'd leave the carpet out in the sun for most of the afternoon to allow it to soften up and un-kink any shipping creases if there are any.

I wouldn't iron it for fear of scorching.

Steam PRIOR to installation might also help get them thar wrinkles out. Might run it by a dry cleaners to see if they can steam it for you!? But the sun should do the trick.

Take the seat out and put some bolts in the holes so you can find where to cut the holes. If the kit you bought is from trim parts be prepared for a less than stellar fit.

Re: Need some advise on Carpet Installation

If it's a good quality carpet set it should fit right and you shouldn't have to glue it to the floor. For it to install and fit right you WILL have to remove the seat. As said above, lay the carpet out in the sun for a while to smooth out the shipping wrinkle's. Then install it in your truck, make sure it fits how you want it to. Install door sill trim plates. Then use ice picks, awls, etc..to poke up thru the carpet for your seat mount holes from the bottom side of the truck. It helps to have an extra pair of hands for this. Then carefully trim the carpet for your seat mount bolts. Re-install your seat and enjoy. Joseph
