Power Brakes For A 74 Chevy Truck
I just pulled a 74 short stepper out of a barn and got it running and driving .It is manual steering and manual brakes .What booster do I need to look for to convert to power brakes ,what other year truck booster will fit ? What about power steering ,what will fit from another truck ?It has a 250 CI 6 cylinder and 3 on the tree . Any info would be appreciated as this is going to become my daily driver until my 72 comes home from the bodyshop and then it will be sold .

Re: Power Brakes For A 74 Chevy Truck
Will a booster and master cylinder from an early 80's truck bolt up to this truck ? The more I do to this truck the more I want to keep it with my 72 if its ever done. Any help is appreciated .

Re: Power Brakes For A 74 Chevy Truck
Does your truck have disc or drum brakes in the front? Contrary to popular belief, those models did come with drum in front, especially on the 6/3 on tree models. If it has drum and you're converting to disc, you will also need a proportioning valve from a disc truck. I recommend robbing a donor truck 73-87 for the booster and steel brake lines all the way down to and including the proportion valve. As for the 250 PS pump/brackets, best bet if you can find it is from a 71-77 Nova, seems like they made more of those w/6 cylinders than any other models, especially in 4-door config. which are easier to find in boneyards than the 2 door. If you do find one in a truck, make sure its not the 292, this six cyl. has a taller block heigth, and different brackets.

Re: Power Brakes For A 74 Chevy Truck
My truck is equipped with factory disc brakes up front ,just not power .I plan to teach my foster boys how to drive a straight shift truck but not until I convert to power brakes as they are not used to manual anything. The power steering may come later as I have decided this truck is a keeper. Thanks for the info .

Re: Power Brakes For A 74 Chevy Truck
I have NEVER seen a 73+ with drum brakes. As far as I know ALL 73+ trucks came with disc brakes.

Re: Power Brakes For A 74 Chevy Truck
N2trux i have seen a few older cars that people took the disc off for drums lol. Some people didn't like disc because they wore out faster and drums would last a long time.
