Changing to an automatic
I am wanting to change my 63 short box with a 230 cid to a TH350 automatic. I have 307 gears in the rear. Will this be sucked out ( any worse than it is) now with the 3spd standard

I am running a 250 with a 200r overdrive. I changed the 373 gear to a 5 lug 307 rear end. I am really happy. I can still pull my harley and cruise at highway speeds.

According to the gear ratios below, you would have a 1st gear advantage (lower gear) with the automatic. So to answer the question, the TH350 would be better or "suck" less. The 700r-4 has the lowest 1st gear of the autos.
Turbo 350 1st-2.52 2nd-1.52 3rd-1.00 Saginaw 1st-1.94 2nd-1.68 3rd-1.00 700R-4 1st-3.06 2nd-1.63 3rd-1.00 4th-0.70 Last edited by fatboy63k10; 09-28-2003 at 10:41 PM. |
