cant decide!?!?!?!

Biulding a 383 tpi motor for my 83 3/4t 4x4. I have a set of long tube headers(dont know what brand but theyre old) but I also have a set of ram horns from a vette. Which ones should I put on? it will be a torque daily driven motor/truck so will I give up any tq with the ram horns? The cam in the motor will be the second smallest extreme 4x4 cam from comp cams if that helps anyone. It will also have vortec heads.

Long tube headers for sure. Then sell me your ram horns. No really.

Long tubes will make the most power if you got room for them tho.

Re: cant decide!?!?!?!

Acually there was a dyno test of corvette ramhorms and headers and there was only a couple HP difference. Search the web. Ramhorns are a LOT less trouble. I say run the ramhorns. I have ramhorns and 2.25 duals on my 83.

Re: cant decide!?!?!?!

Rayfinseats that depends a lot on the brand of header and if its a tri y or not.A good set of headers won't leak and last a long time but most buy the cheapest set they find and have problems with them.

Re: cant decide!?!?!?!

How old are the ram horns? How good of shape are they in? The reason I ask is that my truck had a set on it when I bought it and they both broke. Personally, I'd go with headers.

Re: cant decide!?!?!?!

I've run both. I had WAY too much cam (228 @ .050) a Z/28 intake with an 800 Holley, and the long tubes Heddmans with 2 1/4" pipes and Turbo King mufflers.

I switched to a 210 @ .050 cam along with a Weiand 8004 and a JET Stage II Q-jet. I ran this setup with the Heddmans for nearly 10 years until the flange on the gasket at the collector rotted off and wouldn't seal up. I switched to the 2 1/2" exit 'vette rams horns and had the entire exhaust upgraded to 2 1/2" with Dynomax Hemi Turbo mufflers. This has been a great upgrade. The Jimmy sounds great, is super quiet as far as large diameter exhaust goes, and my "butt-o-meter" shows an increase in off idle torque with no felt loss at higher rpms.

Re: cant decide!?!?!?!

Sorry havent been on in a while. Just concerned about tq. Dont really care what what the HP is as long as I have a boat load tq to turn 37" swamper. Both are in great shape. Never had one leak in with my headers and the ram horns came off my buddies truck as he put headers on. Dont know how old the horns are. And my cam is pretty mild. It will have just a lil thump but not much so it wont be over camed.
