Re: What to worry about

03, 4 and 5 had trouble with the instrument clusters failing in Tahoes, Suburbans and some pickups. I found this a while back when I was scouting out an 03 Tahoe. I was given a link to information about these and they were wide spread. GM was supposed to have corrected the problem by late 05.
From what I read a new cluster has to be installed and calibrated by a GM dealership. You may be able to run the vin on this truck through GM and see if it has already been in for this.
I didn't buy the 03. I hope I got by this potential problem by buying an 06 GMC crew.
That's a good lookin crew.

I think I found that link I mentioned to find complaints and service bulletins, etc.

It's probably the University of Kansas sticker that's holding the price down...

Is there a problem with the intake gaskets on the LS1?

I just bought a 2001 Tahoe and I have found coolant in the oil. The Chevy stealership says it's possibly a head gasket but another place that I'm having the AC worked on said not to lose any sleep over it and that he doubts it's the head gasket and is more likely the intake gasket.

On the contrary. That makes it that much more of a bargain.

Re: What to worry about

I'm passing on it, the gauge cluster is not very bright, so that would need changed. It also has a light thats on, on the dash about the air bag, so it needs a sensor or something, also has a cracked windshield. So I can see spending a $1000 or more on it just for starters. Oh ya and the KU sticker hurt the deal!!!! lol Thanks for all your help, Randy

There is a major problem with that theory. The fact is that the LS based motors have dry intakes. Meaning there is no coolant running through them. So therefore it can not be an intake gasket. The 96-00 5.7L engines had a big problem with leaky intake gaskets allow coolant into the oil and that is most likely where the guy got the idea. But it does not hold true in this case.

Re: What to worry about

Well that would make his theory irrelevant then, wouldn't it.
