Usually when they issue you a new VIN, it'll be for the current year. Not the year of manufacture. That happened to a friend of mine's Dad. He built a 84 crew cab and used a 74 frame. He wanted to be legit and they nailed him with a 08 model year truck. So now his plates and insurance were priced as a 08 truck. He sold it 2 years after he got it drivable.
