belt line chrome

I saw this truck at the Nats east show and my buddy was wondering what truck this chrome came on and if anybody sells it. It is one of the trucks I worked on and he would like to use it to split his two tone paint when he gets that far. It was a nice truck and do not know if it is a board members so hoping to get some info on it.

Re: belt line chrome

I would say about $20.00 a inch plus the finish chrome cost by the foot !!!
How many are you going to order ?
I wish it was in my budget.
Did you get any pics of the fine lines?

Re: belt line chrome

I don't mean to hyjack. But why is this so expensive? I've seen others here talk about interior and exterior trim stuff going for 20-30 bucks an inch. What am I missing here? Why so high?

Re: belt line chrome

I have a friend in So. Calif. who makes all the trim for the outside and inside and it's a lot of labor to make.. each piece is made to fit.. depending on the size most of it starts out either square or round stock and it then hand filed and sanded to what every shape the cust wants.. and then if it has to be bent say like on the truck here it has to all be done by hand very slowly... then drilled and tapped so it can be screwed on after the chrome and we all know how much that cost...
I believe his company is called Red Lizard... he is also a pin striper..

That looks very nice, but I can't even imagine spending $5000.00 plus for that amount of trim.

Re: belt line chrome

Did you look closley to see if it's actually metal? You can get vinyl stick on trim that looks like that. Either way, it looks good on that truck.

Re: belt line chrome

One of the guys I run with had some trim made for his 56, an I think that is what he paid to have it hand made for the side and along the edge if the running boards

Re: belt line chrome

Wouldn't work for the cab, but you might hit some of the wrecking yards and find some straight pieces that would work. Thats what the early custom guys did. Desert Car Kings on tv showed some people doing just that, getting some chrome to extend the strips on their car. I thought the AD trucks had a custom cab option with the belt chrome?

Re: belt line chrome

It looks a lot like the insert that goes in the rub rail on a boat.

Re: belt line chrome

They looked like they were sst. I wondered if they could have been from a deluxe cab. If they were custom made someone did a great job on them. They fit great. With the way the cab rolls it would be very timely to make. I work in a machine shop so i might have to try it. I would probably do it on a router table though. Too many set ups for on a milling machine. You would also have to use a soft alloy so it would bend better. I can see why they cost that much.

Re: belt line chrome

That is the only truck I have ever seen that trim on so it's probably a one off deal. A guy could probably hunt down stainless trim off other vehicles that had the right shape and close to the right curves and with some serious hours make it work. That trim may be off a different model of pickup maybe even a Ford or Dodge that has been modified to fit.
