Question for you parts vendors.
Do any of you have the orginal style wiper motor seal, or all of them just the flat tar like washer looking things, because I don't see how that would seal the shaft where it goes through the firewall, on my 72' it looks like it has two different types one is the tar like washer stuck to the face of the wiper motor, and another one that looks like a rubber seal that seals the shaft to the firewall to keep the water from getting in. With just the tar washer water can get in between the firewall and the wiper motor bracket causing them to rust apart where they are spot welded together.

Well I just examined all of our trucks and looked in the factory assembly manual plus my GM master parts catalogs and none had a rubber seal, they all only had the wiper motor round tar like seal found on all our trucks nothing extra, and the factory assembly manual and GM master parts catalogs we have only show the seal made of the tar like material, so where yours came from thats made of rubber I have no idea but it does not appear that its original.

I don't know. It looks like something factory. And looking at the factory assembly manual and the factory service manual, and also my 1967 GMC there is another seal. It is made of rubber and on page 12-18 of the 1972 factory service manual it shows the seal that I am referring to, it is item no. 3 in figure 18- Wiper Motor & Gear Box Assembly section. It is called a seal cap according to the manual, then on page 12-20 in fig. 23- Washer Pump Drive Cam and Actuator on the bottom left of the page it shows another picture of the seal installed on the shaft. It looks nothing like the flat tar seal that I have for the repalcement, because the tar seal has nothing to do with the shaft and in this picture you can clearly see that it is covering the shaft.

I am not a parts vendor but have helped Tim Christian junk out a bunch of these trucks and the only seal I have ever seen is the tar one on the outside.
