changing back to 67 PS?

The PO put a newer PS set up on my 67, what all do I need from a 67 with PS to put the ram style PS on my truck?

The only pictures I have are 4x4. Why would you want to add back a lot of obsolete parts and leak points. If anything I'd put in a late high effort box tuned for your truck.

One has to ask why you would take a step backward like that. Unless you are doing a 100 point restoration maybe? Does the later power sector on it now not work well?

Re: changing back to 67 PS?

Just thinking about it because it's not the right PS for a 67 and cause the PO hacked up the inner fender with a cutting torch to make it fit and it looks like chit. Just wanted to see what needed to be changed as I've never really looked at a 67 with PS.

Re: changing back to 67 PS?

the drag link is different other than that everything else is just basically a bolt on from there. a valve that goes on the end of the drag link (you can buy new), a cylenbder ram (you can buy new) a regular power steering pump (you can get used, new or you already have one), and the steering hoses (im trying to find a place to get new ones or you can get them made). the hardest part is getting the drag link and good hoses. you also need a special pitman arm which is specific to this and may be hard to find but if you find the drag link chances are they will have the arm to.

Re: changing back to 67 PS?

Ecklers Corvettes has the rebuild kits for the control valve and the cylinder. They're about $20 for each kit now. My '67 has the Ram Assist steering also. I wanted to keep it on there because you don't see many at all with it. I found the hose kit from a guy in Texas. Just can't think of the name right now. $72 for the set. Just over a $100, some fresh black paint and she's good as new.
Ecklers also sells the control valve and the cylinder, $140 each. Not sure if they are the exact ones but they sure look like it. The rebuild kits I bought worked perfect.

if the hose kit is a exact replica of the original truck hoses and you remember who makes them please let us know. i have tried quite a few a few sources but they always end up being the nova or corvette hoses which dont fit our trucks. Rod.

Re: changing back to 67 PS?

Come to think of it, I did have to have a new high pressure line from the pump to the control valve made up. That line had the wrong end on it.
My notes show it's an Omega #4051, but I couldn't locate one so I had one made. That was another $75.

Re: changing back to 67 PS?

here are some pics of the specific parts you will need for the conversion. remember that the drag link is specific to the model you have. 1/2 tons have smaller holes for the tie rods and the heavier of a truck you have the larger the tie rod holes will be because of the beefier suspension components.

i have both omega hoses But one is too long and doesnt fit into the clamp that holds the hose off of the valve. i will definately use these if i have to but would like them to fit into the clamp properly. i have thought about having some made but no one local will do it for me. may have to ship them out.
