Talking Just got her back...

Well, this has been a long time coming (4+ Years), but I finally got my ol' 71 back from the body shop. Guys did a heck of a job, and for what I spent, I couldn't be happier. We installed the 5" rear drop from ECE an hour after she hit the driveway, and now we just need to get the front done next weekend. I've done a lot of reading on here in the past and it sure helped making some of the decisions. Here's some pics, more to come once we get the front dropped, and once I decide on which rims I'm going with (suggestions are welcome), and the interior will be ready to drop in once my friend finishes it up. Them 'ol boys that think their camaros give em' a perma-grin has never driven a C-10 with too much motor under the hood and not enough meat on the pavement.

Wow!! That looks great. Was the flat/suede look your finished goal, or a transition before you drop some gloss on it?

yeah, it was the look i was going for. it's regular black with a matte clear coat. I had to talk the body shop and everyone else into it, but once they saw it, everyone was pretty shocked at how it turned out. I'm thinking about getting all the chrome done in the black chrome, but then again, just the little bit on it, stands out and isn't to gaudy.

And thanks everybody, I need to scare up some before pics. The bed rails were so bad, if the wind was blowing hard enough it would knock rust holes in it. After re reading my post, i realized it kinda sounds like it was at the body shop for 4+ years, but it was only there a month. the other 3 yrs 11 months me and my brother have been tinkering with it off and on. (I got so frustrated with it, I about hauled it to the scrap yard a couple of times..... glad i didn't now, lol)

yes it is the fuel filler, and its a tank for a 72 blazer. Not sure of the brand but it holds 20 something gallons which is just enough fuel to run from gas station to gas station. Hahaha. As for the engine, it ain't much, just a 350 (400 hp\450 ft lbs.) mated to a 700r4 out of a 93 Camaro. With no weight over the rear end them tires just wanna spin all the way through 3rd gear,

Re: Just got her back...

i was looking at your pics and was wondering what kind of bedcover that is? i like it. also i don't know if you have seen them but on my black 72 stepper i want to put a set of showwheels thrashstars on them. either the black ones or the silver. they have a polished but i'm tired of polishing wheels. hopefully now that i have some of my truck repainted i'll get back to having everything chrome on it powdercoated gloss black. but sback to your truck i like it, dennis

its homemade. A few 2x4's, a sheet of plywood, and some outdoor carpet. Took about 30 min to assemble. It took a little thinking to make a single uncut sheet of plywood work, but it can be done. It also sits flush with the bed rails so its pretty seemless. If I need the bed, it slides right out and can throw it back in when I'm done. You can throw 4 fat guys up there and it doesn't move at all. Plus it adds a lil' weight over the rear.

Re: Just got her back...

That Satin Black really took off a couple of years ago. So much so, that I really got kinda sick of it. Out here it seems like every one is painting just about anything that color. That said, Your truck is the absolute exception.
It looks like it was designed for the color. I really like it!

Thanks again everyone. The reason i went with the matte black is because Everyone around here does orange, blue, silver, or red. Haven't seen a black one. Ive been asking my friends about a pin striper around here cause i have an idea i wanna have on the sides and on the hood, but apparently im gonna have to use google...

Re: Just got her back...

well it's been a month and life got in the way for a while, but the suspension is installed, put some new shoes on her (295/50 15's and 235/60 15's) and took her to a local meet Friday night. Couldn't get in the show area, but parked a couple of rows over in the parking lot, and people were coming out to see her. Feels weird having people coming up and wanting to know every little thing that seems like minor details.
