Exhaust Manifold Bolts/Washers ?
Educate me please.
I have a pair of ram horn exhaust manifolds and have been told I need special washers for the exhaust manifold bolts. I purchased a new set of bolts from classic parts and they did not come with washers. Would someone confirm the need of these special washers & possibly provide a source for them? Thanks!

Most people just throw them away but here's some.

Re: Exhaust Manifold Bolts/Washers ?
Great! Thanks for the link.
Now - are these washers as necessary as I've been told? And what are special about them as compared to a regular old run of the mill washer? Thanks!

Re: Exhaust Manifold Bolts/Washers ?
I have used run of the mill grade 8 bolts and washers on my ramhorns since the early 80's with no problems....

I use grade 8 bolts & SAE grade 8 washers on all of them.

Re: Exhaust Manifold Bolts/Washers ?
So - absolutely nothing 'special' about the factory washers?

Re: Exhaust Manifold Bolts/Washers ?
They also use a locking tab thing that goes under two bolts and the tab folds up to lock them in. I don't have a good picture of it, but you can see them on this picture.

Re: Exhaust Manifold Bolts/Washers ?
I just had an epiphany!
I think that’s what I was being told was ‘special’ – not the washer but the French lock. Thanks s/t!

Re: Exhaust Manifold Bolts/Washers ?
The factory washers were smaller in dia. & a little thicker but SAE washer are close & work good.
