For Sale: N.O.S. GM 3.73 ring and pinion
Brand New ... Never Installed.
Bought these a year or so back for a project that got changed around, decided to use 3.08 ratio instead ... so now I don't need these. A friend of mine who works at a local Chevy dealership found these on the shelf at another dealership thru their computer parts locator. If no one here is interested, they will go on eBay ... but wanted to give ya'll "first dibs" on them. $150 plus shipping. Email or PM with any questions. Are these for a Dana 60? If they will fit my GMC 3/4 4x4, I will take them. I currently have the 4:56 ratio, and believe the 3:73 uses the same carrier.
Thanks

These are for the Coporate 12 bolt style rear-end.
Someone also asked if this gear set is for a 3 Series or a 4 Series carrier ... how do I tell? Last edited by Shane; 09-15-2003 at 01:44 PM. |

3.73 gears and higher go on a 4 series carrier.

3.73 gears and higher go on a 4 series carrier.
3.73 gears will also fit series 3 carrier if they are the thick gears.

I wasn't aware that they made a Thick & Thin set of gears !!!!!
Was this from GM or was this difference an after market solusion to put different gears on other carriers. |

3.42 and numerically larger GM gears are for the series 4 carrier. Lower numbers than 3.42 are for the series 3 carrier. However, gears are made for a series 3 carrier that are 3.42 and numerically larger. They are thicker to compensate for the difference in size of the carrier. I have never tried to find GM gears since Richmond, Precision and others make these gears for a heck of a lot less monsy and they are just as good or better than GM gears.

Gears
I have a 1971 Chevrolet half ton, series 10 pickup with the originally installed since brand new 3.08 posi rear end. Does anybody know if these gears will work? And what is the easiest way to find the correct speedometer gear for the 400 trans?
Thanks. Kevin Korff |

72skytop,
You'll have to change the carrier if you want to use these gears. As stated you would need the 4 series carrier. You currently have a 3 series if you have the 3.07 rear. Hope this helps.. Shane is the set still for sale or is it spoken for..? Thanks, Vince
