Speedometer cable

Hey guys, Do you know if the speedometer cable is the same from a truck that had an I6 to a V8 ?

I just installed a SBC on a truck that original came with a I6 , but the speedometer cable will not screw on the male attachment in the tranny. Cant really tell if the screws are messed up on either the cable or male attachment in the transmission , I know the cables are about $20 so no big deal, but if the threads on the transmission are messed up, can i replace that part ?
