Mix and matching leaf springs for my truck
Hey fellas, as some of you know I just bought another square body and the frame is toast. I have a 1 ton frame to replace it but found out it is a Dually 4x4 frame so the frame won't work due to the springs being too narrow. I was wondering if I took some leafs off of my donor trucks and stacked them to increase its load hold would this work?/ I have a 1977 K10 that has a MINT chassis and I need a 3/4 or 1 Ton to do the work I will be doing. I have to use the K10 now with the 3/4 ton axles. I know the rear springs are shorter but I was wondering if any of you guys ever combine springs to make a stiffer truck? I have two donor trucks, one with 9 leaf set-up and one with 8 leaf set-up. I just want to use the lower leafs because they are shorter and can stack on my K10 leafs. Thanks in advance guys.

It should work just fine as long as the leafs are the same width and you stair step down the lengths as in every leaf added to the bottom is shorter than the one above it, if you follow what I mean.

Re: Mix and matching leaf springs for my truck
Yeah,I did my 80 K10 years ago,put twice as many leaves in to beef up my load capacity. Worked good, just like J Knight said stair step each leaf & it will be good. You will need to make a longer center bolt and possibly longer u bolts.Good luck

Re: Mix and matching leaf springs for my truck
if its a longbed, you can just move the rear spring hanger back(there should be holes for it already farther back) and use the longer 3/4 or 1ton springs on it. they all fit. you could use the 1ton frame, if you had the rearend to match, or moved your perches in a little.
