question for those running bags

i'm going to start off running my rear bags up against the frame and trailing arm (without plates). from the photos you can see they won't have 100% support. on the top outer part of the frame the bag goes past almost 1", on the inside about 5/8" past. anyone run them like this without any problems?
i have some plates made already, i may cut off (half moon looking) what i need and weld it up against the notch so it's flat all the way across to give it the full support.

in the last photo (just over 1" past each side) i'm not as concerned because i will go ahead and weld the plate section on. i think over 1" per side is a little to much for comfort.

any troubles or thoughts? thanks

Re: question for those running bags

Unfortunately i canT answer your question but i dont get many answers on this forum when i ask about bags on here, I love 67-72chevytrucks but i take my bag questions to http://c10forum.com/forum/index.php not near as many members but alot of guys there run bags and are very knowledgable and i usually get plenty of answers. there is a section for "air baggin" might wanna ask your ? Seriously? When did you ask a question on here that didn't get answered? Nothing wrong with that forum, but it gets a small fraction of the activity that goes through here.

Re: question for those running bags

If you add the tab on the frame it should support the bag plate fine so you don't need to worry about it breaking.

Re: question for those running bags

i recently had the same question - and wondered when i installed my double convoluted bags if the hang out (or hangover) from the frame was kosher.
but i thought - well other guys do it this way and no one is shouting - failure of this set up.
the brackets that are available add another layer of support. but the thing is still stickin out past the frame ( plus the brackets add to ride height).
i think the bag is the weakest link (its wt. limits) - it seems fully supported by its plates (which have stonger wt. support capacity).
my guess is that if you used a big washer on the underside of your trailering arm with the thru bolt and you have it all snug and tight you should be good.

the concern might be any heavy duty lateral force to shear the thing off or bend it ! .... is that going to happen ? not during normal use i dont think.

you can check it intermittantly after your install to assure it is all well.

not advice. just my thoughts.

mine look like yours (no brackets and with the overhang).

Ive asked several questions on here relating to bags, some get replies but most get less than 5 hits, and ive even posted them in the general 67-72 section. So what good is more activity if no one is answering your questions? I post the same ?'s there and even though its usually a slower process i get the help i need. im not bashing this forum if you want answers on anything else or want pic threads for dayss this is the place to be, but the help for air suspenion is lacking. Im just tryin to help this guy out, which is the most important thing. I think an air suspension section would make a world of difference.

Your an Admin. can you help us out with that?

Re: question for those running bags

thanks guys. load weight will not be an issue. the heaviest thing i'll haul will just be some lawn chairs to take to shows. i think i'll let the top ride without any extra support, looks like it should do fine. i'm still thinking of the bottom, i'm sure it's fine also. i guess it depends on how energetic i get some day.

some more input from others is welcome. some pics would be cool. i scroll through tons of peoples builds, but not many at all show alot of detail or close ups of there bag and shock set ups.

i do agree with nuttinspecial, a baggin section would be nice and helpful. i think a while back i suggested an interior section also. of coarse i wouldn't know if these would bring enough traffic though, plus the time and effort to create a section.

Re: question for those running bags

An interior section is a really good idea. I dont know how much work it is to create a section but i dont think having enough traffic would be an issue. Since they have a "Pre 1947 Chevrolet & GMC Parts Board" section with a whopping 19 total threads in it lol

I guess the reason I am surprised at this is the Forum Moderator and I are both avid fans of air suspension. We have an unwritten policy to ensure that all posts get a reply or a bump if we don't have a specific answer. I will admit that we don't have the industry professionals posting on here as much as they once did, but they do continue to monitor the posts here.

My experience has been that you get a lot more input here regarding bolt in style suspensions, be it static or air, and over there they are more advocates of frame Z's and body drops.

We have never tried a suspension section specifically for air suspension since the topic is so heavily covered here. Its something that we might look at in the future, but right now I don't see it going that way.

The Staff considers all option that might promote a more positive experience on the site. We have requests for new forums daily, but they are equally followed by complaints that we have too many sub forums that no one reads.

Our research shows that the best way to determine if a topic is viable to be considered for its own forum is to create a thread discussing the topic. If the thread generates enough of a following, we look at adding it as a forum or sub forum.

As always your thoughts and input are appreciated.

From my research,... I see that you started 4 threads (one was a duplicate in another board section),... so 3 total threads about air ride suspension.

There are some very knowledgeable members on here,... including Nate Porter of Porterbuilt Fabrication.

What exactly would you like to know?
If I can't answer your questons,... I will try to find out, or get another member to answer.

That's what this place is all about.
Helping each other.

I've been running Slam Specialties bags,... just like that for 3 years.
No problem at all.
If it would make you feel better,... you can run your flat plates,... to sandwich the bag.
(maybe even tack weld the plates in place)
But I don't think it is necessary.

Here's a link for others looking for these plates,...

Re: question for those running bags

I also like the 2-piece bolt-in C-notch offered by Porterbuilt Fabrication.
Notice the added upper bag support area, made into the lower half of his c-notch.
Pretty Cool.

Re: question for those running bags

NuttinSpecial, maybe you should start a build thread...that way if there are questions that arise, you would have that support system, too. Pictures are always great as well. I usually always check this forum, but it has been kind of quiet lately...I think vacations and people out driving their trucks is to blame
